David N. Tarantino
David N. Tarantino is a longstanding volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America.
During his time with the organization he has focused on bringing diversity and inclusionto the organization across many of the different scouting divisions.
He is a former member of the Northeast Region Executive Board where he served for 2 years. David also served on the Northeast Region Sea Scout Committee where he was the Vice Commodore of Administration. Along with these roles he also served as the Ship Growth and Retention Mentor for the State of New Jersey for 3 years. In this capacity he worked to bring Sea Scouting to inner city areas where the population is traditionally underserved by Scouting.
Currently, he is the Skipper of Ship 1908 Rising Phoenix in Union City and the NNJC Council Commodore. He has also served as the Asst. District Commissioner for Hudson County and Senior Scouting which serves predominantly Hispanic/Latino and African American communities.
David is an experienced Seabadge Staffer having served on the staff of 3 courses and directed 1 course. He has served on the staff of SEAL, Woodbadge, and KODIAK. Among his Scouting honors is the Eagle Scout, Venturing Silver Award, Venturing Summit Award, Exploring Achievement Award, Varsity Denali Award, Quartermaster Award, District Award of Merit, Scouting... Vale la Peña, Asian American Service to Scouting Award, and Regional Sea Scout Leadership Award.
David holds a Bachelors of Arts in Music Business from New Jersey City University. He is the Director of English and Sacred Music at his home parish of Sts. Joseph and Michael Parish in Union City, NJ. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, The Budapest Palace of the Arts, and St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome as well as many other well known venues. His professional memberships include the American Choral Directors Association, National Association for Music Education, National Association of Pastoral Musicians, Organization of American Kodaly Educators. David is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America where he serves as the Faculty Advisor to the Omicron Theta Chapter. In his spare time he volunteers at Sts. Joseph and Michael Parish as a Catechist, Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Finance Council Member and Pastoral Council Member. David also volunteers weekly at the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry in Union City, NJ.
